The North Country Mavericks and Lady Mavericks basketball teams squared off against Scobey last Saturday, February 5, in Scobey.
The Lady Mavericks were able to top the Lady Spartans 59-30, but the Maverick boys lost 86-40.
North Country will face a trio of teams this week, including a home game against Dodson on Tuesday, February 8, starting with a JV boys game, in Whitewater, at 5 p.m. The girls' varsity game starts at 6 p.m. and the boys' varsity game will start at 7:30 p.m. The game will be Whitewater's Senior Night.
North Country will then host the Lustre Christian teams on Friday, February 11, in Hinsdale, at 5 p.m. The event will start with a JV boys game. The girls' varsity game starts at 6 p.m. and the boys' varsity game will start at 7:30 p.m. The game will be Hinsdale's Senior Night.
The teams will then travel to Frazer on Saturday, February 12. The girls' varsity game will kick things off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys' varsity game will follow at 7 p.m.
In the Lady Mavericks' win over the Lady Spartans, the team was led by Jaycee Erickson who had 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Teagan Erickson had 13 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Paige Wasson had eight points, five rebounds, and four assists. Zandora LongTree had six points, two rebounds, and two steals. Mattea McColly and Kora LaBrie had five points. Kendall Scheffelmear had five rebounds.
"The girls did a great job of working through some early mistakes and missed shots to find their flow in the second half of the game," Coach Erickson said. "They are playing great, unselfish team basketball and are fun to watch."
In the Maverick's loss to the Scobey Spartans, Trey Johnson led North Country with 13 points. Aiden Albus had 12 points, Kaden Strommen had six points, Taylor Mogan had five points, and Blaine Downing had four points.
