One Nation, Under God
A group of about 50 of our local veterans and their families enjoyed a wonderful dinner and good company at the eleventh annual Military Dinner at the VFW Club on Saturday, January 8.
As the guests showed up, they put their names in for some door prizes that were donated by many of the local businesses, and throughout the night, tickets were sold for a 50/50 drawing.
Prime rib and beef ribs were the main courses with a salad, mashed potatoes, and corn as sides. If you still had room after all of that, there were beautiful cupcakes for dessert.
"It's a good time," said Vince Schmoeckel. "We get veterans from all of the branches of the military and guard together with their significant others and family for some good food, conversation, and depending on who you talk to, some really good stories."
After the meal, the winners were drawn for the 50/50 and door prizes. Some bartering began for a few of the prizes, and more conversation was enjoyed by all.
"I think we had a really good turnout," said Jim Sintler, a veteran and one of the organizers of the dinner. "I don't think anyone's going home hungry."
