Mavs, Lady Mavs defeat Nashua before break

The North Country Maverick and Lady Maverick teams picked up wins against their Nashua counterparts on Tuesday, December 21, in Nashua.

The games served as the last action for both teams in 2021. The teams are scheduled to go to Glasgow on Thursday, January 6, 2022, to take on the Glasgow Scotties and Lady Scotties. The event starts at 3:30 p.m. with the JV Girls game. The teams will then host Scobey in Hinsdale on Friday, January 7.

In the Lady Mavericks’ win over the Lady Porcupines, the score was 59-14. The Mavericks would later defeat the Porcupine boys 52-32.

Lady Mavericks

Paige Wasson led the Lady Mavs with a total of 23 points. Wasson knocked down three treys and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Teagan Erickson had 11 points. Jaycee Erickson had seven points. Shelbi LaBrie and Mattea McColly each scored six points.

The Lady Mavericks were dominant on the scoreboard throughout the first three quarters, outscoring the Lady Porcupines 19-5 in the first quarter, 19-2 in the second quarter, and 17-4 in the third quarter. North Country also outscored the Mavericks 4-3 in the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks were led in their win by Aiden Albus, who scored 17 points, 13 of which came in the first half.

Trey Johnson, Blaine Downing, and Coy Bowman each scored nine points. Kade Strommen had eight points. Bowman knocked down three three-point shots in the game.

The Mavericks were locked in a close 13-12 game with the Porcupines at the end of the first quarter, but North Country pulled away throughout the rest of the game. They outscored Nashua 17-9 in the second quarter, 12-4 in the third quarter, and 11-6 in the fourth quarter.
