The Lady Coyotes Basketball Team had a pair of losses prior to Winter Break last week.
The team will see their next action in 2022, as they are scheduled to take on the Roy-Winifred Lady Outlaws on Friday, January 7.
The Lady Coyotes were unable to hang on to a fourth-quarter lead in Turner as they fell to the Tornadoes on Monday, December 20, in Turner. The final score was 43-39.
“The game was a battle from the tip-off,” Dodson Coach Clayton KillEagle said. “Both teams were evenly matched so I knew it was going to come down to who wanted it the most.”
The Lady Coyotes were led by Kataya KillEagle, who scored 19 points, nine of which came in the first quarter. KillEagle had a total of four treys.
Imagin Fox had a pair of treys and six points total. Lindsey Fetter had five points. Jazlyn KillEagle had three points. Kim IronBear and Kylee Ball had two points each.
Dodson fell behind 25-18 at halftime, but registered its strongest defensive outing of the season, holding Turner to four points, while scoring 14. The score was 32-29, at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Turner would score 14 points, while going 7-8 from the charity stripe.
“Our young team came up short, but not without a fight,” Coach KillEagle said. “We will continue to figure out how to close that gap and come away with wins.”
Despite the age of his athletes, coach KillEagle is expecting his players to compete.
“We get complimented on our age level with four 8th graders, but like I tell the girls, we hold ourselves at the highest level,” Coach KillEagle said.
In the team’s loss to Nashua on Wednesday, December 22, the score was 40-27. The Lady Coyotes were led by Kataya KillEagle, who had 12 points. Imagin Fox had nine points. Jean Jackson, Kylee Ball, and Jazlyn KillEagle each had two points.
Dodson fell behind 12-9 in the opening quarter and was outpaced in the second and third quarter; 9-6, and 12-2 respectively. Dodson’s highest tally would come in the fourth quarter, where they outscored Nashua 10-7.
