Its Harvest time!!
It is sad that many farmers did not have a crop due to the drought. However, there must have been a “bumper crop” of apples.
A box of lovely apples was on my doorstep. It was a mystery; I called several people and finally found the apple donor. It was Julie Austin Cole. Thank you to Julie for the apples and bread.
Here’s a recipe for easy apple crisp.
Apple Crisp from Naomi James of Alberton Mont.
Ingredients:
5 apples, peeled and sliced
¼ stick of butter, softened
1 ½ T. flour
2/3 c. sugar divided
1 t. cinnamon
1T. Red Hots
1/8-1/4 c. water
Directions:
Grease 1-quart baking dish and fill with apples. Crumble with hands: butter, flour, and half of the sugar. Set aside. Sprinkle remaining sugar, cinnamon, and Red Hots over apples. Add water over apples.
Sprinkle crumbled mixture over top. Bake 10 minutes at 450, reduce heat to 350 and continue cooking until done, about 30 more minutes. Serves 4-6.
