One Nation, Under God
In June, 2021, TC Energy cancelled its Keystone XL Pipeline project. A decision that was ultimately made in January, once President Joe Biden removed the permit it needed to cross into the U.S. from Canada.
TC Energy provided details of its plan in an August 14 document filed in Montana federal court. It stated that work to remove the 1.2-mile segment of the pipeline in northern Phillips County, will start September 22. TC Energy will relinquish the last part of its right-of-way over land at the border when the work is complete in November.
It is estimated a total cost of $84 million to decommission the pipeline on federal land alone.
In a statement released by the TC Energy media relations, it states;
TC Energy previously announced the termination of the Keystone XL Pipeline Project. The unfortunate reality is, the Project cannot and will not proceed.
The revocation of the Presidential Permit requires that we remove the border crossing section of pipe in the United States. We have communicated our plans and received approvals from appropriate regulators and authorities, and this work will be completed by this fall.
We remain grateful to our union construction workforce, community leaders, elected officials and the many others who supported the Project.
