The North Country Mavericks Volleyball Team won a pair of games last week, bringing their record to 3-0.
The Mavericks defeated Harlem 3-0 on Thursday, September 9, in Harlem, and then Bainville 3-1 in Saco on Friday, September 10.
The Mavericks are scheduled to play the Scobey Spartans on Saturday, September 18, in Scobey. The Mavericks also faced the Malta M-ettes in Malta on Tuesday, September 14, at 4:30 p.m. The game recap will be provided in the September 22 issue of the PCN.
In North Country’s win over Harlem, the scores were NC 25 Harlem 16, NC 25 Harlem 17, and NC 25 Harlem 16.
The team was led in kills by Paige Wasson who had nine. Jaycee Erickson had six aces and 11 digs. Teagan Erickson had nine kills and three blocks. Kora Labrie had ten digs.
“This was a great match for us,” Coach Wasson said. “We worked on new rotations this week and they really didn't look very smooth in practice all week but when we got to the gym and started playing the match everything just seemed to flow very nicely.”
The scores in the win over Bainville were NC 25 Bainville 11, NC 25 Bainville 11, NC 22 Bainville 25, and NC 25 Bainville 13.
“ We came out in this match and really dominated the net with our size,” Coach Wasson said. “We won the first 2 sets by making great passes and executing our attacks.”
Because there was no JV game that night, Coach Wasson decided to sub in JV players when the team reached a 16-10 lead.
“I told them to go in and win the set and match,” Coach Wasson said. “They came up a little short 22 to 25 but it was good to let them take the floor and see what they could do. Then in the 4th set, the Varsity went back in and had a bit of trouble getting rolling right away, but found their groove and just had some great saves and communicated very well.”
P. Wasson led the team with 10 kills and six aces. J. Erickson had 14 assists and eight kills, T. Erickson had 11 digs and two blocks.
