Malta Swim Team Third in Class C

The Malta Swimmers showed well at the 2021 State Swim Meet this past weekend in Columbia Falls on both Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1.

“This weekend went really well for us, especially with the pool being closed for repairs, and us not being able to practice,” said Swim Team Coach/Swimmer Darrow Messerly. “I had a lot of kids PR in a lot of their events, which made me proud knowing how competitive the state meet gets. I couldn’t be prouder of my kids handling the situation and staying focused and determined enough to do well.”

These are the seven Malta swimmers that qualified for the state meet, and how they did in each of their events: Jahmiah Huffman LaBrie; 200 IM – 3rd, 50 Back – 2nd, 50 Fly – 3rd. Darrow Messerly; 200 IM – 5th, 50 Free – 10th, 100 Breast – 2nd. Jayne Young; 25 Free – 10th, 50 Free – 17th. Silas Young; 50 Free – 11th, 50 Breast – 8th, 100 Free – 11th. Kael Young; 50 Free – 9th, 100 Free – 6th, 50 Fly – 9th. Taya Wilke; 50 Breast – 8th, 50 Back – 16th. Makiya Wilke; 100 Breast – 14th, 100 Free – 18th, 100 Back – 8th.

“Even though not all of my kids made it to the second day of the meet in all of their events, they still swam their hearts out and made the most of their opportunities,” said Messerly. “We finished the meet third overall in the Class C Division of the state, which I couldn’t be happier to end the year and my swim career with. I can’t wait to get back to it next year!”
