Malta High School adds two new sports

The Malta School Board approved the addition of two sports to the athletic program during their regular meeting on July 14.

Boys Cross Country and Girls Wrestling were approved by unanimous vote.

Both sports are sanctioned by the Montana High School Association. Boys Cross Country will take place in the fall of the year following the same season dates as Girls Cross Country.

Girls Wrestling will take place during the winter and will follow the same season dates as Boys Wrestling.

Malta High School Principal Shawn Bleth sent a press release statement to the PCN after the meeting.

“We are excited to add these activities for the students of Malta High School and provide more opportunities of our students to compete,” Bleth said.

Other action items that were taken care of at the meeting were approving the 2021-22 contracts. The Board approved the contract of Bruce Somes – Head Custodian.

The Board approved the Out-of-District Attendance Agreements.

Middle School Principal Kelly Cederberg presented changes to the middle school student handbook, and High School Principal Shawn Bleth presented changes to the high school handbook. All of the changes were approved by the board.

The last action item for the board to approve was the 2021-22 bus routes. Superintendent Matt Genger requested the routes be approved as is with the caveat that there may be some changes to the routes once the school year begins. The bus routes were approved as follows: North Wagner - 74 miles, South Wagner - 75 miles, Zortman - 220 miles, Strater Route - 98 miles, and Loring Route - 180 miles.

Due to conflicts, the regular board meeting set for Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at 7:00 PM will be changed to Monday, August 9, 2021.
