One Nation, Under God
The Malta City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 13, in City Hall at 5:00 PM.
The council started off by approving the minutes of the last meeting, the agenda for the nights’ meeting, reviewed the audit committee for payment of claims and approved the June 2021 payroll.
Public Works Director Jim Truelove gave his report to the council.
Truelove said there has only been one dig since the last meeting, but there will be a couple more coming up.
The new ADA-approved stair set has been installed in the City Pool. All reports say they are a hit.
The speed limit sign is out and will be continuously moved around town.
The bus that has been in the city impound has been moved on to a private property. There is now another vehicle that has been brought into the impound lot that had been on the street for quite some time.
The street sweeper is done with the city. It will be brought back out if needed.
City Clerk/Treasurer Lorie Bond gave her report.
She handed out the current check register, the current shut-off list, the June payroll, overtime, vacation, sick leave report, and the CD report.
Bond then handed out a copy of an email conversation that she had had with the insurance company regarding the Trafton Park bathroom that was damaged and taken down last year. The insurance is stating that it would only pay for the cost of the building.
Truelove said that it was taken down because it was a safety hazard and needed to be. He said he would get a hold of the agent that he had talked to before it was taken down, and he will get a couple of estimates in writing so the project can move forward.
Bond then reported that there was a recent problem with two travel teams trying to use the gym at the same time. She said that the coaches worked it out but there needs to be some kind of rules for this because members can use the gym when they want to.
It was decided that Parks and Rec. Director Sally Wright would work with the City Hall office on getting a set of guidelines in place so that there are no future problems.
Bond also said that letters will be sent out for any lawns that need to be taken care of in town.
She then said that the KMMR radio station had asked if the city would want to be a sponsor for the Phillips County Fair advertisements on the radio for $69.
A motion was made to approve the sponsorship. It was seconded and approved by roll call vote.
The last department report was made by Parks and Rec. Director Sally Wright.
She reported that the second session of golf camp was held on June 28 and 29, and they had 17 kids. It was run very smoothly and efficiently.
Soccer camp was held on June 28-30. There were 32 kids at the camp. It was very hot, but they did most of the drills in the shade at Trafton.
Wright said that yoga classes were ongoing every Wednesday at 6 AM. There were 6 people in it and three weeks were remaining.
Cornhole league had started and there are 10 teams involved.
Art in the Park would be held this week, and gymnastics classes and skateboard lessons would be starting next week.
Wright then said that she and Kristina (Benner) were continuing to clean and weed all of the parks and taking care of the ball diamonds as well.
With no new business to take care of, the meeting was adjourned at 6:02 PM.
The next Malta City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, July 27, at City Hall at 5 PM.
