One Nation, Under God
The Montana Department of Transportation held an open house on Tuesday, June 15, at the Milk River Pavilion. The subject of discussion was the Highway 191 South project.
About 25 members of the Malta community were present for the open house. Some just curious, and some with concerns as to how it would affect them and their land or business.
Regarding the public open house, Glendive District Administrator Shane Mintz said, "We're always grateful to the people who join us during these open houses. It's incredibly important to MDT that we hear from folks in the area. Including those who could be impacted by the project, before any issues can come up. Being proactive now makes us more successful further into the project."
The project will break ground in the spring of 2023. The plan is to widen US highway 191, add shoulders, and new ditches to help with drifting snow. It will reconstruct areas where the road is steep or has sharp curves, and add a pedestrian walking trail on the west side.
The 191 South project would start approximately nine and a half miles south of Malta near South Alkali Creek Road, ending at the south end of the bridge over the Dodson South Canal in Malta.
