Malta Community Supporters to be Honored in Statewide "Tow Rope Tour"

Well-known radio personalities of the Northern Broadcasting System (NBS) are fanning out across Big Sky Country in 2021, and coming to Malta, May 21, to broadcast the stories of public-spirited Montanans and local businesses who have supported their communities throughout the years, and to highlight the special contributions made during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NBS “Tow Rope Tour” will draw attention to Montana’s communities and the people who make them great, according to Colter Brown, Director of the Northern Ag Network, which, along with the Northern News Network, (divisions of NBS), will visit Shelby, Havre, and Malta, May 19-21, respectively.

“Montanans are special,” said Brown. “I believe we witnessed that throughout this pandemic as neighbors and employers looked out for each other. We want to draw attention to those stories, and celebrate our connection with each other,” he said.

The Tow Rope Tour will be coming to Malta, Friday, May 21, from 9am – 12pm, at Crossroads Coffee & Bistro, 65 South 3rd Street East. The broadcast event is open to the public.

Along with live broadcasts from various locations across the state, the networks are inviting listeners to visit northernbroadcasting.com and submit nominations for Tow Rope Heroes, that is, people or businesses that have helped make a difference in the community or in the lives of others. Tow Rope Hero nominees, and the people who nominate them, will be entered into a drawing for a Bad Boy Zero-Turn lawn mower. No purchase necessary to win, see https://northernbroadcasting.com/ for contest details.

“In Montana, we don’t leave folks stranded along the side of the road,” said Tom Schultz, host of Montana’s longest-running statewide radio talk show, Voices of Montana, (9am-10am, M-F), part of the Northern News Network. “That’s why we carry a tow rope. There are a lot of good people in Montana humbly doing good things for their neighbors, or even strangers, and hearing those stories can be uplifting and encouraging for all,” Schultz said.

The Tow Rope Tour, sponsored by Mountain Health CO-OP, a non-profit, member-governed health insurance cooperative, will feature a live, on-site statewide broadcast of Voices of Montana, plus a two-hour local radio broadcast, and interviews and field reports airing on more than 70 radio stations affiliated with Northern Broadcasting. In all, more than a dozen Montana communities will be included in the tour.

The Tow Rope Tour previously honored community supporters in Lewistown, Great Falls, and Helena, April 13-15. Visit northernbroadcasting.com/towropetour for a list of dates and communities involved, and to submit nominations for Tow Rope Heroes.

Since 1975, the Northern Broadcasting System, which includes the Northern Ag Network and the Northern News Network, has been a trusted source of daily news, talk, weather, sports, and agricultural market programming, working with a powerful network of local radio and TV stations in Montana, Wyoming, and the Western Dakotas.
