Coyotes punch ticket to third straight Divisional

The Dodson Coyotes are heading to Sidney for the 2021 Eastern C Divisional. The team hopes to make history, qualifying for state for the first time since the 1960s.

The Coyotes have made it to the Divisional round for the third year in a row, qualifying for the event by defeating the Lustre Christian Lions 56-42 in the District 3C Consolation Finals in Malta last Saturday, February 20.

The Coyotes entered the tournament off of a bye, then lost their semi-final game to the North Country Mavericks 50-41. Dodson then fought back in consolation defeating the Nashua Porcupines 74-60 on Friday, February 19, and then Lustre last Saturday.

In the team's win over Lustre, Dodson was led by senior Zarek Jones who had 17 points. Juliun Benson had 14 points. Michael Jaynes had 12 points. Jeramiah Benson had six points, Alex Werk had five points, and Dwight Werk had two points.

Dodson scored 15 points in the first half while limiting Lustre to a three-point field goal and one free throw. Lustre had a stronger showing in the second quarter, outsourcing the Coyotes 18-14.

The Coyotes were more aggressive in the paint in the third quarter, scoring 13 points, while holding Lustre to ten points, six of which came from treys by Lion Cayden Klatt who had 17 points in the game. Dodson would close the game out with 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Lions added 10 points to their tally.

In Dodson's win over Nashua, the Coyotes were led by Michael Jaynes who had 21 points, and three treys.

Jones had 14 points, A. Werk had 10 points, Je. Benson had 11 points, Ju. Benson had seven points, Kadin Racine had six points, Cash KillEagle had four points, and D. Werk had one point.

The Coyotes outscored Nashua 18-2 in the first quarter, and then 23-14 in the second quarter. Nashua outscored Dodson 15-14 in the third quarter, and 29-19 in the fourth quarter.

In the Coyote's semifinal loss to North Country, Dodson was led by Zarek Jones who had 16 points. Juliun Benson had 10 points, Dwight Werk had six points, Michael Jaynes had five points. Jeremiah Benson and Alex Werk each had two points.
