One Nation, Under God
Gladys “Hap” Dudik (94) passed away in Silverdale, WA, on January 12, 2021. Born on February 11, 1926, she was raised in Malta, MT. Hap graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman. While teaching in Polson, friends introduced her to Marine veteran and U of M basketball player Mike Dudik, from Endicott, New York. They married in 1948, and together they raised three children and lived in 15 places in five states.
In 1966, they settled on Bainbridge Island, WA. Mike was golf pro at Wing Point Golf & Country Club. Hap updated her teaching credentials at UW, then taught Home and Family Life at BHS. In 1988, they were instrumental in the development of the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan, MT. They built their dream home on the golf course, with a beautiful mountain view, and retired there in 1991. After Mike’s passing, Hap lived on her own, then found new adventures and companionship with college classmate Maury Guay of Missoula. After Maury died, she returned to WA at the behest of her children.
Hap was preceded in death by parents Hank & Leota Anderson; siblings Leonard, Bob, and Jean; husband Mike (2000); and “suitor” Maury Guay (2015). Survivors include daughter, Cathy Cohoon (John) of Silverdale; son Dan (Teresa) of Lake Tapps; and son David (Gwen) of Park City, UT; granddaughters Jennifer Chambers (Nyle), Jessica McKay (Tim), and Christiana Dudik; four great grandchildren, as well as sister-in-law Madelyn Anderson of Malta, nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Over her lifetime, Hap was active in Girl Scouts, church choir, P.E.O., Silver Sneakers, and volunteer work. She enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, and reading. Her travel included seven Elderhostel/Road Scholar adventures and four cruises. Hap’s 80th and 90th birthday celebrations were memorable gatherings of family and friends.
