The Dodson Coyote basketball team was able to pick up three wins last week against conference opponents.
The team defeated Nashua 65-25 on Thursday, January 14, then Frazer 77-33 on Friday, January 15, and the Lustre Christian 56-49 on January, January 16.
The Coyotes are set to travel to Melstone on Thursday, January 21, North Country in Dodson on Friday, January 22, and then Scobey in Dodson on Saturday, January 23.
The Coyotes were dominant in their win over Nashua. The team outscored the Porcupines 18-0 in the first quarter.
Dodson Head Coach Frank Benson said that the Porcupines possessed a lot of speed, which slowed down the coyote offense.
“Our experience helped vs. Nashua,” Coach Benson said. “Missing Juliun Benson from this game, Mikey and Jeramiah took charge and found a way to get the ball to our bigs, Zarek Jones and Dwight Werk.”
Dodson was led in scoring by Jaynes who scored 18 points. Jones netted 13 points, Werk scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. Alex Werk had 10 points.
Coach Benson said that the team did not look back in their lopsided 77-33 victory over Frazer after scoring the game’s first 16 points.
The team was led by Jones who had 20 points. Jaynes had 19 points. Kadin Racine had eight points. Jeremiah Benson and Werk each had seven points.
In Dodson’s win over Lustre, Jones led the Coyotes with 18 points. Benson had 14 points, and Jaynes had 13 points.
The Coyotes were up 30-18 at halftime and held off a late 10-2 run by Lustre as well as a 28 points performance by Kolden Hoverland.
This week will likely be the toughest of the season for Dodson, who is pitted against Melstone, North Country, and Scobey.
“I call this the State Tournament Week, because we are playing Melstone who punches their ticket to state every year, North Country, who is senior loaded and has the ability to be a state tournament team this year, and Scobey who is the defending co-champs with four starters returning,” Coach Benson said. “This week will be a true test.”
