One Nation, Under God
The Malta VFW Auxiliary, Hi-Line Retirement Center, and the Malta Elementary School paid tribute to some of our county's heroes last week in honor of Veterans Day.
Carolyn Schmoeckel of the Malta VFW Auxiliary reports that they served 75 people at the annual Vet's Day Dinner, including 27 Veterans. This year's dinner was served drive-through style due to the current health concerns. Thankfully, the change did not overly affect the turnout, as 77 people, including 34 veterans, were served at the dinner in 2019.
"We are so grateful for their service to our country, and to our group's volunteers, the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion for all the help making and delivering the meals," said Schmoeckel.
Judy Henry reports that the veterans at the Hi-Line Retirement Center celebrated on Tuesday, November 11 with pictures from Malta Elementary School, a card of Thanks from the facility, and candy. Gene Taylor, the eldest veteran, received a hand-painted picture created by John Ramos, the facility maintenance man.
