One Nation, Under God
In their final meeting of June, the Malta City Council heard about mosquitoes, the Municipal Pool being readied for the swimming season, and that literal tons of trash and junk were hauled away from residences during the City’s Clean-up Days.
Malta City Public Works Director Jim Truelove said that over 40 loads — both on pull-trailers and dump trucks — were hauled away from homes in the city and to the dump, totaling approximately 15-to-20 tons.
“It really helped clean up the community and people got rid of a lot of unwanted items,” Director Truelove said.
The Malta Parks and Recreation department officially opened the Municipal Pool on July 7…though it had to close later that afternoon as high winds, rain, and hail blew through Phillips County. The pool is managed by Kelly Cederberg and COVID-19 precautions are being observed at the facility. The pool’s remodeled bath house is still under construction and a portable, temporary bathhouse has been parked and used in front of the pool's entrance.
As for everyone’s least favorite insect, the City of Malta changed the spray they use for dealing with mosquitoes in the area, using the same formula that the Town of Dodson uses. Malta Mayor John Demarais said that spraying is being done every night of the week (when the temperature is right and the wind isn’t too strong) adding that the new spray doesn’t have the same strong fragrance as sprays used in the past.
“Just because you can’t smell it doesn’t mean it is not working,” Mayor Demarais said.
