One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for July 1, 2020

Sympathy to the family of Barbara (McMullen) Mavencamp, a Whitewater High School graduate.

Get well to Jeannie Green, also “glad you are better” to Tana Oyler. She is our Mail carrier and travels to Whitewater from Malta and back. Tana and her family operate the local dairy in Malta. Their specialty is the milk, cream, and cottage cheese.

Phillips County and Whitewater areas have mostly beef cattle, but a few still milk by hand. When I grew up, sometimes we had milk cows. I even took turns milking! I also fed the bum calves, and lambs, and it was so much fun! We used to drink raw milk back in the day. Now all milk is pasteurized an homogenized. Times change.

Here in Whitewater on July 22nd our town is booming. The Triangle Telephone Company is still putting new lines and wires in. To do this, they have a huge machine that digs trenches. When they lay the wires and cover them, they test telephones. There are several men at work, wearing orange vests. Someone told me the project is upwards of $2 million! Wow! The workers brought their trailers and stay in them. Most of them eat at the North 40 which is good for our economy. Welcome to all of them and all visitors.

Some from Whitewater, including Patty Young, attended a party hosted by Northwest Realty in Malta. It was a nice party.

The Whitewater School Board met. They will be having three new teachers. Mariam Sanguins and Gail Wilcott will be leaving. Also, Mrs. Carol Lumsden is retiring. Good luck to all of them and God Bless.

Happy 4th of July.

Helen A.
