Men's Golf League

After six weeks of the 2020 Men's Golf League at Marian Hills, Team Prairie DeSigns still leads all teams with a total of 114 points. The runner up so far is Team Mint Bar, who has 108 points.

Team Art's Furniture made the largest jump in the standings last week leading from sixth place to third with a day-high 21 points. Though in last place, Team Valley Drug had the second-highest amount for points, scoring 18.

This Thursday, Team Art's will go head-to-head with Team Prairie DeSigns in a matchup that could shake things up in the top three.

The PCN caught up with Wyatt Uphaus of Team Bank of Malta, who was going up against Team First State Bank.

"It started off pretty rough but I am doing better now," Uphaus said. "I am starting to dial in it a little bit."

He was asked what got him golfing well near the end and he said that he was thinking about supper.

"We just asked Michelle (cook at Tin Cup), what's for supper and she got us hungry, so we are ready to finish up and go eat," Uphaus said.

Golfing for Team First State Bank was Jase Galt who was a substitute golfer for his father, Bob.

"It's going alright so far," Galt said. "I've been trying to keep my drives straight. It has been pretty fun with these guys. I love coming out here because it's a good time."

Galt will be a substitute for Team Bank of Malta in week seven.

Galt did golf for Malta during his sophomore season in 2014 but ran track for the other three spring seasons during his high school sports career at Malta.

"It was actually really fun and I loved golf," Galt said. "(Former MHS Golf Coach Lynne Nevrivy) made it really fun for everyone. We went to state that year as well."

He said that he did regret not being able to golf more during his time at MHS. Galt went on to play football at Montana Tech in Butte and has one more semester before he graduates.

On Wednesday, June 10, Josh Sorlie of Team Bank of Malta was the closest to the pin at hole #7, a par 3. The PCN asked him about the chip.

"I hit with an 8 or 7-iron," Sorlie said. "I putt her tight and luckily they were nice enough to give the next one to me because usually, I am a three putter."

He shared that he thought his group was doing well in week six. He is hoping that if Team Bank of Malta continues to do well, they may find themselves in the playoffs.
