One Nation, Under God

It's been eight years

First of all, Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife Susan.

Her birthday week always marks a couple of milestones in our lives. First off, on June 21, I moved to Montana as a surprise to Susan. We knew that we would start our life together here, but I moved here months earlier to be with the woman that I love. It has been the greatest eight years of my life.

I proposed to my wife one day before her birthday, because I didn’t want her to go into her birthday without knowing that I was 100 percent committed to her and that I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. We are almost at the end of our seventh year, and I have been warned of a seven-year-itch. There is no itch. I am still committed, love my wife with all of my heart, and still want to spend the rest of my life with her by my side.

This week also marks when I became a father for the first time. Our son PJ was born at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 of 2014. He has been a blessing and it has been a great joy and honor to be his father. Sometimes, like this year, Father’s Day falls a few days before Susan’s Birthday.

During this week, three out of four of my family members receive gifts on this day. Our youngest son Lincoln is a 2-year-old. Linc was born in March, so even though he had a birthday with a few presents, that was a long time ago. So he wanted to take any present that PJ opened. He also thought that we should sing Happy Birthday to Lincoln. I shut that down. Any normal person in today’s world would probably be like, yeah, sing Happy Birthday to Lincoln, but not me!

We threw a small but successful birthday party for PJ last Saturday. It was cool to see him interact with several of his friends. My wife knows how to put together a great birthday party! It was nice hanging out with a few of the parents that day. No one talked politics, it was just a good hangout.

The next day, Father’s Day, we took a field trip to Havre, and let Lincoln pick out his toy. PJ grabbed a couple of Hot Wheels and Lincoln picked up a helicopter toy.

Father’s Day went well! Susan had a blanket made for me with photos of several memories that I have had with the boys.
