The last car of lumber from construction of the new high school building had arrived.

State Republican chairman John A. Tressler was a business visitor in Billings.

Mrs. William Mason and children consulted at eye specialist in Havre.

Harry Cosber had returned from Great Falls where he attended to business matters for the Bowdoin Oil and Gas Company.

Attorney Fred C. Gabriel was back from a business trip to Helena.

Henry Anderson, who had been running a bakery in Glasgow, had sold out and planned to return to Malta to open a business.

May 17, 1945

Loring again heads County bond list

The community of Loring, as it has done in every past war loan drive, went over the top at a bond rally held there Monday evening. The quota set for lowering was $31,765 and the bonds sold today total $41,767, or about 132% of the quota.

The rally was arranged by Fred Grabowski and William Dunigan, Co-chairman. Alarge crowd of enthusiastic bond buyers attended and the following members of the County community were present: J. H. Lesselyong and Hans G. Mebust, County chairman R. G. Monroe, James T. Harrison, Fred L. Robinson, H. S. Whitcomb, Louis LaRoche, and B. P. Sandlie.

Annual Sports Day program Friday

A program of sports events, music, and refreshments is scheduled for County grade school children at the high school athletic field in Malta on Friday, May 18th.

The sports day is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, firemen, and Malta Commercial Club. The Dodson High School band will open the program with the National Anthem.

Michael Short is killed in Germany

Private Michael Short, youngest son of John Short of Malta and Mrs short of Harlem, was killed in Germany on April 14, according to information from the War Department received Wednesday.

Private Short was born at Malta on September 28th, 1921. He attended grade school, living with an aunt, Ms. Pete Taylor while attending school. He was inducted into the army from Malta on July 17th, 1942, and after receiving training in the United States he was sent overseas about a year and a half ago. His father is employed at the L. And P. Henson ranch.

Receives Purple Heart

Because of wounds received in the battle of Manila, Pfc. Dan I. Hammond, son of Mrs. Augusta Hammond of Saco, has been awarded the order of the Purple Heart. The award was made by Brigadier General Hugh Hoffman, ,nding general of the First Cavalry Division. Private Hammond was fully recovered from his wounds and has returned to duty with his unit.

May 21, 1970

Successful paddle fisherman ...

Large numbers of fishermen have been congregating along the Missouri River the past several weeks fishing for paddlefish. Most of them are fishing just below the Slippery Anne Game Station. Darryl Black, formerly of Dodson, caught a 98-pounder recently.

Rural schools track meet held Monday at Regina

The Regina grasshoppers 4H Club held its 13th annual track meet for the South Phillips County rural schools at First Creek Hall on Monday. Pupils and teachers from Creek Crossing, Tallow Creek, Sun Prairie, Second Creek, Phillips, Emond, Midale, Robinson, Landusky, and Zortman schools participated in the track events and spelling contests. Nearly 60 schoolchildren attended, as well as their parents, preschoolers ,, and friends.

Spelling Bee winners were Darlene Itcaina of Zortman, first grade; Eugene Holzhey of Sun Prairie, second grade; Janet Crowder of Sun Praire, third grade; Janice Holzhey of Sun Prairie, fourth grade; Randy Shores of Sun Prairie, fifth grade; Coleen Pankratz of Second Creek, sixth grade; Pat Emond of Midale, seventh grade, and Leo Barthelmess of Tallow Creek, eighth grade.

Some of the track event winners included Diane Robinson in the 100-yard dash; Joan Robinson in the 50-yard dash and high jump; David Shores in the pole vault, and Cheryl Shores in the broad-jump.

Laura Perkins: When we moved back to Montana from Marysville, California.

Ron Welch: When I went back to Minnesota for a family reunion about nine years ago.

Jessica Hebert: When I went to Reno last summer to see my dad.

Kit Kaufman: When Jeri and I took the kids and horses to the Marshall Wilderness for a week.
