One Nation, Under God
The 2018-19 Golf season was an excellent season for the Malta golfers. First for our Most Improved Golfers. Hayden VanWichen, as a sophomore, was one of our best golfers. His growth from his freshman year to his sophomore was immense. Has a freshman Hayden's average score was a 116 with never shooting under 100. His sophomore year, he never shot in the 100's, and his average score was 96. Hayden had a very consistent year placing in every golf tournament we played. Hayden just fell a couple of strokes short of qualifying for the State B Golf Meet. Camryn Messerly has had fantastic growth from her sophomore year to her junior year. Camryn went from an average score of 125 to an average of 115 the next season. Just like Hayden Camryn was very consistent and only fell a couple of strokes short of qualifying for the State B Golf Meet.
Grayson Waters was our Most Valuable Golfer for the 2018-19 season. Grayson's season started a little slower then he would like, but like the true champion he is, he kept battling, and every meet, Grayson began to score better and better to the point he was playing his best golf at the end of the season. At the Northern B Divisional Meet in Wolf Point, Grayson played some of his best golf where he qualified for State B Golf Meet for the second year in a row. The State B Golf Meet was located in Missoula at the Ranch Club. The Ranch Club was a challenging course with small fairways, thick rough, and out of bounds all over the course. Grayson did struggle a little bit the first day shooting a 104. However, Grayson showed great perseverance and came back on day two and took nine strokes off his day one score and shot a 94.
Kloie Marks was our Most Valuable Women's Golfer for the 2018-2019 golf season. Kloie started out shooting in the low 100s which allowed her to place in a few regular season meets, and then ended with her best score of the year at the Northern B Divisional meet in Wolf Point shooting in the 90s. With her low score at the Divisional meet, Kloie qualified for State, which was her second time in her high school career as she attended State her Sophomore year as well. State B Women's Golf Meet was held at Canyon River in Missoula, Mont., and was a lot different of course than Kloie had seen during the regular season. Canyon River held some challenges for Kloie, which included deep bunkers, thick grass, narrow fairways, and she battled a little bit of a hard fade off the tee box. Canyon River was facing some issues of its own with their greens, so alternate greens were created on a few of the holes for the players, which created even more challenges for Kloie. Kloie shot a 124 the first day, showing that the challenges she was facing were tough, but came back with improvement the second day finishing with a 114. Despite the challenges faced, the weather was beautiful and there were great experiences and memories made.
