One Nation, Under God
Things have been strange since we have arrived home from the State Basketball Tournament.
With the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, came many businesses temporarily closing their doors to the public, and many people around America staying home with their families.
For a second it seemed as though democrats and republicans worked together. Facebook posts were plentiful and not full of the typical garbage that divides our country.
America’s boredom and creativity were seen as funny memes and videos were shared. Things were definitely looking up.
I enjoyed a weekend at home with the family after missing the weekends and some nights with them due to the sports season. I enjoyed seeing how far they have grown, which seems to be a daily occurrence.
The boys enjoyed our family weekend as well. Lincoln would let me hold him, which isn’t typical for him, but I think he was just enjoying the facts that we were all shut in together. Social distancing that weekend felt relaxing. Susan and I binge-watched All-American, a show set in Los Angeles, about football and society in that part of the country, and we even piled up a few cheat days. The cheat days have been essential because it gives us a chance to support local businesses that aren’t allowed to keep their tables open during this crisis.
The town has felt more or less, like a ghost town, with many following suit with the rest of the country. I have to say that the weirdest experience has been paper day. There aren’t many out in stores and that is definitely terrifying. But if these measures keep our families safer, it feels like it is worth it.
I wash my hands regularly, but I don’t think I have ever washed my hands as much as I have these past few weeks. I won’t even begin to mention how often I have used hand sanitizer. I have also been drinking more tea than usual along with vitamin C pills to help the immune system.
