Season ends for Lady Coyotes

The season ended for the Lady Coyotes last Saturday, February 22, in Glasgow as the team fell to the Frazer Lady BearCubs in the Consolation Finals.

Despite being without senior Christina Jaynes (injury) throughout a couple of games, the Lady Coyotes went 2-2 at the Girls District 3C Tournament, defeating Nashua 56-53 in the opening round of the tournament last Thursday, February 20, then falling 52-26 to the North Country Mavericks on Friday, February 21. The Lady Coyotes bounced back and defeated Lustre Christian on Saturday, February 22, in the Consolation semifinals, prior to their season ending loss to Frazer.

In their win over Nashua, Dodson was led by junior Melony Fetter who had 22 points and eighth-grader Kataya KillEagle who scored 20 points.

The Lady Coyotes were behind 42-33 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Lady Coyotes outscored Nashua 23-11 in the fourth quarter.

"We pressed them when their guards fouled out late in the 4th quarter," Coach Frank Benson said. "I told them we are down by ten and their best player just fouled out, so they are going to have trouble getting across half court."

In the team's loss to North Country, the Lady Coyotes were led by Fetter who had nine points. KillEagle added six points.

"They did the little things better then we did," Coach Benson said. "I am actually going to make it my duty to go watch them at divisionals."

Though the loss was tough, Coach Benson hopes that the Lady Mavericks can make plenty of noise this week.

"I have become a North Country girls fan now," Coach Benson said. "I am hoping they can get to state. North Country is the type of team you strive to be like."

In Dodson's win over Lustre, Coach Benson credits the victory to the Lady Coyotes win to them being aggressive in the first quarter.

"We got out on Lustre early and they never could recover from it," Coach Benson said.

The season ending loss to Frazer, Dodson was outscored 26-13 in the first half. The Lady Coyotes were led by KillEagle who had 15 points and Fetter who had 10 points.

"Frazer came to play man they were hitting every shot they shot and credit to their Coach Bryce Kirk who had them ready," Coach Benson said.

Coach Benson praised his team for their growth this season saying, "They learned how to play defense and shared the ball better this season."
