One Nation, Under God
Well, that was different.
I have been at the All State wrestling tournament for six of the past season years and this one felt a little different. Most of this is pertaining to food.
The first difference from this year to last is that I went rogue on my diet. I followed a strict ketogenic diet last year at state. This year, I lasted until noon before I decided that I would simplify things by eating whatever I wanted within reason.
I may or may not have eaten a brisket sandwich, chili, a 2-inch club sandwich, one cheese fry, and two cookies during lunch on day one.
While I was powering through that bowl of chili, I realized that I could not be trusted without restraints.
The next meal, I came up with a plan. You remember the one cheese fry that I ate? I decided for dinner that I would eat one whole order for dinner and nothing more. I'm not saying that the Fuddruckers fries that I acquired tasted better than Taco Bell's seasoned fries, but they were amazing!
Plot twist, I added chili to those cheese fries and that added another dimension of flavor! I also had Taco Bell and a Spicy Chicken Sandwich from Popeyes.
Another thing I realized was that this was the first year that I could drink pop at state. If you didn't know, I abstained from drinking pop from December 31, 2009 to January 1, 2020. Ten years. I gladly enjoyed Diet Pepsi all weekend!
I also had the chance to see one of our wrestlers make a championship match. I hadn’t seen that since 2014. Unfortunately things didn’t go his way in the match, but I know that I am not the only one that is very proud of him and our wrestlers for giving it their all this season.
