One Nation, Under God
The Dodson Coyotes varsity basketball teams both went undefeated last week as they squared off against Turner and Nashua.
The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes will face Roy-Winifred in Roy on Friday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. The Dodson teams will then come back home to take on their North Country counterparts on Saturday, February 8, at 4 p.m.
LADY COYOTES
The Lady Coyotes defeated the Turner Tornadoes girls varsity 42-37 on Friday, January 31, and then went on to defeat the Nashua Lady Porcupines 48-44 on Saturday, February 1.
"We had fun," senior captain Christina Jaynes said of their win over Turner. "We just kind of let everything go. Took all of the pressure off of our shoulders and relaxed."
In the Lady Coyotes' win over Turner, Dodson was led by Melony Fetter who scored a game high 23 points.
"Melony went off," Jaynes said. "She just kept attacking, and attacking, and just never gave up and never dropped her head."
Jaynes added six points to the tally. Kataya KillEagle had five points, Lindsey Fetter had four points, and Ireland Best had two points.
Jaynes was asked about the team's win over Nashua, a game in which Dodson trailed until the fourth quarter.
"It was ugly but it was a W," Janyes said.
When asked what Nashua did so well against them that night, Jaynes focused on issues the Lady Coyotes needed to focus on.
"I don't know if it was so much (Nashua) or the fact that we couldn't get shots to fall to save our lives," Jaynes said. "Nothing wanted to go in the hoop."
Jaynes mentioned that the key to their win over the Lady Porcupines was ball movement. When asked about what the team needs to practice most, Jaynes responded, "Free throws."
