Betty Ann Vollum

Betty Ann Vollum, age 88, passed away January 27, 2020 at the Liberty Medical Center in Chester, MT due to natural causes.

Betty was born on April 2, 1931 to Henry and Edith Hansen Forness in Williston, N.D. She received her education in Williston graduating in 1949. In 1962 she met a very handsome young sailor named Bud Vollum. They married on July 18, 1953. From their union 3 children were born- Linda Ann, Kyle Rae, and Paul David. Even though they divorced in 1978, they remained good friends until Bud passed away in 2015.

Betty loved to shop especially for sweaters. She was a prolific seamstress making shirts for Bud and David, dresses for Linda and Kyle. She also was a knitter and quilter. She came from a family of Golfers and was proud that she was a Caddy for her parents. She would watch Golf Tournaments and say "its exciting to watch!". She loved to watch the CNN Channel. She was a "stubborn Norwegian-German with a splash of Irish" who loved to argue especially about politics. Every once in a while, she liked to indulge with a Margarita (limit of 1) made by her son-in-law Mike.

Betty had many jobs in her life, from being a "soda jerk" in high school, a secretary for the best boss anyone could ask for – Mr. Erling Manger- at the original Manger Insurance Office in Williston. She also worked at J.C. Penny and the G.N. in Malta before working at the Clerk and Recorder's office for Phillips County. She was the go to person "back in the vault" having a keen eye for detail with the land descriptions. After retiring twice from that job, she worked for Big Flat Electric helping with the land easements. She was very proud of the little green house she bought at the age of 63!

Being a member of the Malta Lutheran Church, she was always happy to help in the kitchen or count the offerings. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran Church in Williston, N.D.

She is survived by her children – Linda (John Hasler), Kyle (Mike Spencer), David (Jeana) Vollum. Grandchildren- Lee Ann (Jeremy Malley), Memory Spencer, Ian (Mary) Spencer, Whitney (Craig Buckman) Vollum, Lacee (Ryan Presthus) Vollum. Nieces- Tami, Kim, and Holly.

She was preceded in death by her father- Henry, Mother- Edith, Brothers- Henry and Richard, Aunt Maude, Son-in-Law Jerry Borst and grandson Borst.

A funeral service will be held on February 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Malta Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilderness Funeral Homes of Malta.
