11 more free Lunch Webinar's scheduled in Malta

Though the classes were announced too late to be previewed on last week’s PCN, six people attended the first of 12 “webinar” lectures classes held in the Phillips County Library Conference Room last Wednesday.

The webinars are presented by Destination Development Association, made available for free by the Montana Department of Commerce Tourism (MDTC) Grant Program, locally hosted jointly by PhillCo Economic Growth Council, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, MSU Extension Phillips County and Great Plains Dinosaur Museum and run by Malta’s Anne Boothe.

“I saw the classes on the MDTC Newsletter and thought they looked good,” Boothe said. “I have also followed the Destination Development Association Webinars in the past and I think they are a good idea and can give Phillips County some ideas other communities have implemented.”

Last Wednesday’s “Fixing Downtown: Where Do We Start?” class was the first of the bunch and will be followed the second Wednesday of each month with the following: February “Business & Community Signage”; March: The Art of Wayfinding; April “Economic Impact: Downtown & Tourism”; May: “Visitor Information Centers in the Digital Age”; June “Getting Everyone on the Same Page, Pulling the Same Direction”; July “Breaking Down the Silos: Creating Winning Partnerships”; August “Community Marketing on a Miniscule Budget”; September “Turning Your Shoulder Seasons into Peak Seasons’; October “Making the Most of Social Media”; November “Great ideas: That will make you a Fantastic Holiday Destination”, and December “Seven Deadly Sins of Destination Marketing.”

For those who are not available to attend the Malta meetings ——or would rather take the classes from the comfort of your home — you can do so by registering at https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8982407870014068237, but registration is not necessary for the Malta classes. The classes are scheduled to run from 1-to-2 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month, in the Phillips County Conference Room located in the basement.

Julie Snellman, who owns Art’s Furniture with her husband, Jason, and who is also the President of the Malta Area Chamber of Commerce was at the first webinar and is excited that the webinars will run for the next year.

“I am excited to see what kind of information they provide,” she said.

Alisha Ereaux, Social Media Manager for the Malta Chamber, said she is always looking for ways to improve or bring new things to the area and added she too is looking forward to the classes.

“Anytime you can bring something more to the community it is a good thing,” she said.
