One Nation, Under God
On January 1, 2020, I had my first pop since December 31, 2009.
Ten years! I made it and I know it’s not polite to pat yourself on the back, but it was a tough thing for me to do. For those who don’t know, Mountain Dew was a vice for me. There was a time that I would slam a two-liter of Dew in the span of a couple of hours.
According to reference.com, a two-liter bottle of the aforementioned beverage has roughly 9.7 ounces of sugar in it and a grand total of 276 grams.
One 20-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew contains 77 grams of sugar or 2.7 ounces of sugar. Sugar is a carbohydrate. During my time on the Keto Diet, I wouldn’t have that many carbs in five days.
Speaking of the Keto Diet, we had been pretty lax in our dieting since Thanksgiving but given how we feel while on carbs, Susan and I decided to get back on the Keto wagon. This time around, I may try to add Diet Mountain Dew to the diet.
When I told people that I was going to stop my streak of ten years without pop, some didn’t understand. Ten years was always the goal. I did think of going another 10 without pop, but there is not even a guarantee that anyone will even live ten more years. I have had many close calls in which I wanted to drink a Mountain Dew over the past ten years, but I didn’t. I made it!
Will I go back? Probably not. Pop makes me feel terrible. Even after drinking the few bottles of Mountain Dew that I did on January 1 and 2, I still felt like I needed to chase it down with water. Was it worth it to break my pop fast? Yes. You have to live a little.
I have enough will power to stop drinking pop, so to be able to enjoy it for a couple of days with no rules was nice.
I believe that our family Christmas season was fun. My favorite memory had to be when Lincoln would tear off a little strip of wrapping paper and hand it to Susan while saying, “here you go mama!” and “here you go!” He did that 50 times.
It seems as though both PJ and Linc enjoyed their gifts, which was a relief for this chocolate Santa.
We battled through some gnarly sickness but we made it. Happy New Year to all!
