The Dodson Coyotes basketball team are three games into their 2019-20 campaign and the team is 3-0.
In the team's 72-46 win over the White Shield Warriors on Friday, December 13, the Coyotes were led by Corbin LoneBear, who scored 22 points. Zarek Jones had 12 points and Juliun Benson had 10 points.
"Corbin LoneBear plays like he wants to win this year," Coyotes Head Coach Frank Benson said. "He could care less of how many points he scores. He is looking to win the game. He does it by passing, scoring and all the little things."
In a game where Dodson kept up the defensive pressure throughout, the team jumped out to a 22-7 lead after the end of the first period.
"We just made sure that Jesse White was guarded," Coach Benson said. "We made sure that we had two guys seeing where he was at all times. We made him dribble more than he wanted to, tiring him out."
White Shield's offense, led by White, who was an All-State selection in N.D., adjusted in the second quarter, scoring 13, but Dodson's offense piled on 16 points. Dodson went on to outscore White Shield 34-26 in the second half of the game. White had a total of 16 points in the game.
This week, the Coyotes are scheduled to take on the Scobey Spartans, a team that they have been looking forward to face since last season, given Scobey is typically the top team in the 3C District.
"We have got the athletes, so we can compete with them," Coach Benson said. "I think we can compete with them, run our offense and pressure them too."
