Man wanted on Phillips County warrant leads law enforcement across county lines
Last Monday night’s Parade of Lights in Malta was followed by another parade of lights down Highway 2 as a motorist led law enforcement on a highspeed chase which traveled through Harlem, Fort Belknap and ended in a Dodson wheat field.
Robert Bear III was arrested for resisting arrest, careless driving, and fleeing from or eluding peace officers following the pursuit on Monday night, December 2.
Blaine County Sheriff John Colby confirmed that the Blaine County Sheriff’s office confirmed the chase started near Harlem when Bear, who has a warrant for his arrest in Phillips County for theft, allegedly fled in his vehicle.
The pursuit went through Harlem, and into Fort Belknap Indian Reservation where Fort Belknap Tribal Police Officers joined the pursuit, reaching speeds of over 90 miles per hour. Once the pursuit entered into Phillips County, Phillips County Sheriff Deputies joined the pursuit which went south of Dodson on Stage Road.
Reaching the gravel portion of the roadway, Bear lost control of the vehicle in a Wheatfield and crashed, leaving the vehicle on its roof. Bear then exited the vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued. Bear was eventually caught and arrested.
There are charges pending out of Blaine County as well as Phillips County pertaining to the pursuit.
“Thank you to Phillips County and Fort Benton, and the Montana Highway Patrol for their assistance,” said Sheriff Colby.
