On Sunday, December 1, 2019, at 12:49 a.m., the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck on US Highway 2 near mile marker 501, approximate a quarter mile from the Phillips County and Valley County line.
Phillips County Sheriff Jerry Lytle, Deputy Drake Molina, and Reserve Deputy Bruce Metcalf responded to the call as well as Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David Moon, Valley County Sheriff Tom Boyer, Valley County Sheriff’s Office personnel, and the Hinsdale Ambulance. An off-duty Glasgow Police Officer arrived on scene shortly after the crash and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation without success.
The victim, Cash Austin Taylor, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sheriff Lytle, from blunt force trauma to the head.
The crash is under investigation by MHP Trooper Moon.
