One Nation, Under God
Before a loud firework was set off by the Malta Volunteer Fire Department at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, The Malta Chamber of Commerce had it's own night of shenanigans, as the Chamber hosted the Eighth Annual Malta Putt Crawl.
"It's great," Malta Chamber member Jessica Cebulski said of the event. "Everyone is showing up with excitement. There are some groups dressed up and some newcomers that aren't dressed up but their reactions to the dressed-up people are great. I think it gets everyone going and excited."
The event took place among nine local taverns in Malta, including Stretch's Pizza, The Kid Curry Lounge, The Lucky Bullet, Westside Casino, The Mint Bar, The Malta VFW, The Stockman Bar and Steakhouse, The Tin Cup, and The Blue Ridge Brewery.
The putt-crawl golf event was won by Team Dutton, consisting of Shane Anderson, Jenifer Anderson, Tanner Anderson, and Caitlin Anderson. The team was a rendition of the Dutton Family from the television series Yellowstone.
Best Costume went to the Putt Crawl Champions of 1969, who had the most votes at the end of the contest on the Malta Chamber Facebook Page. The team consisted of Jesse Young, Kayla Young, Karey Bishop, and CJ Bishop.
The night brought forth many festively dressed competitors and teams with great nicknames.
"Some of the team names we got this year are The 406'ers, Damn Near Canadians," Cebulski said. "We have some Beer Pong People, some Cereal Killers, Global Gym Purple Cobras."
She was asked how this year's crop of competitors and their dress-up ranked with previous years.
"It's been pretty good," Cebulski said. "We have seen some good ones and some stuff that we hadn't seen before."
The event serves as one of the Malta Chamber's biggest fundraisers and with 100 golfers present, it's safe to say that the 2019 event was a huge success.
