One Nation, Under God

Dodson News for November 20, 2019

The school served a very good dinner for the community on November 14 from 11:00 to 1:00. It was all very delicious and teachers, students from certain classes and other older students helped and served the senior citizens and other grown-ups who attended. There was entertainment from the students who sang for the company. Dinner consisted of potatoes and gravy, turkey, green bean casserole, salad, sweet potatoes, and rolls. Extra condiments were cranberries, small onions, olives, radishes, carrots, cauliflower, and small sweet pickles. Desserts were a delicious pumpkin pie and a strawberry shortcake. Coffee, tea, lemonade, iced tea or milk were offered also. It was very nicely set up and handled by the students and enjoyed by all. Many thanks are extended to the students who helped make it a success, the cooks for preparing the delicious meal, and to the teachers, the entire school, and to the school board for doing this for the community.

The dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas for parents and as a thank you to the community were started back in the 80s-90s when Nellie Sherman was superintendent and has always been well received. That was also when the breakfast program was started. We also had a day once a month for one class to invite their parents---- that class would choose the menu they wanted and do any decorating. This was always enjoyed by all, all menus had to be submitted and approved so changes could be made between the class and us cooks. It seems that sometimes when they were being chosen in the classrooms and their teachers they would get carried away-----it was guaranteed we would not have lobster, prime rib, etc. We did have things like a full Chinese or Mexican dinner if it was wanted. Things like this and the birthday box for anyone having a birthday in the month made things different sometimes and fun. The smaller kids always seemed to enjoy picking something from the birthday box and the older students received credit for a pop if they wished. Head cook Dora Henry and her husband Elmer, who also drove the bus supplied the birthday treats the years they were there.

Continued get well wishes are sent to Jerry Lankford after his emergency surgery. You're looking good, Jerry.

Sunday was a nice day again. Terri Cole's daughter Shannon came with Terri when she brought Food Bank supplies for Jack to take back with him. Terri helped seal up the 15 quilts Dora Henry had made for Lutheran World Relief, so Jack could take these also. We also had 19 school kits to go.

Birthday greetings to Colton Stiffarm and all others having a birthday this week and to all those celebrating an anniversary.

Polly Solberg and Dora Henry were in Havre on Monday.

When you forgive you heal when you let go you grow.

Have a wonderful week.
