The Malta M-ettes Volleyball team picked up a win over the Poplar Indians on Wednesday, October 16, in Poplar.
Action will pick up for the M-ettes this week as they are scheduled to take on the Glasgow Lady Scotties in Malta on Thursday and the Roundup Panthers in Malta on Saturday.
In their win against Poplar, the M-ettes took all three sets going 3-0. The scores were 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20.
“I think our win against Poplar came from quality serves and minimal serve errors along with confidence at the net,” Coach Kalli Rummel said.
The team was led by Justine Lamb who had seven of the team’s 23 kills. Kylie Hunter had 10 of Malta’s 30 digs. Carly Garfield had all three of Malta’s blocks and Kaylee Bishop had three of Malta’s eight aces.
With only one week left in the regular season, the M-ettes know that they have plenty of work to do in order to compete with other teams.
“Moving forward we would like to keep growing in our abilities at the net and gets stronger defensively,” Coach Rummel said. “During practice, we will focus on speeding up our defense at the net and becoming better and more accurate at reading the opposing hitters. We will keep working on our serve receive as it has been improving since the beginning of the season. We want to get a touch on every ball and minimize our errors.”
The team will face Glasgow and Roundup this week. In past games against the Lady Scotties and Lady Panthers, the M-ettes were unable to win a set.
Coach Rummel shared her observations about her team’s opponents.
“Both Roundup and Glasgow have strong front row players as well as scrappy defense,” Coach Rummel said. “These teams come to play and they are always challenging matches.”
The teams games against Glasgow are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.in Malta on Thursday, October 24. The games against Roundup are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, in Malta.
