Westside Self-Service Summer Block Party Sept. 28

As September weaves its way into October, the folks over at Westside Self-Service in Malta have decided to throw a hootenanny as a final sendoff to the 2019 summer with a block party for both children and adults alike.

"The main part of this event is the kid's games and family time," Bridgett Ereaux, who owns Westside Self-Service with her husband, Bob Ereaux, said. "I have been getting ideas for the games all year long and Bob has been building them for me."

Games Bob has built in preparation for the block party include Limbo, a whiffle ball game, a balloon toss, soda bottle ring toss, a Wilcoxson's Ice Cream Bucket game, all accompanied with over 400 prizes for the children including glow sticks, and there will also be cakewalks and chicken dances.

"The band will be playing just for the kids from 7 p.m. until 8:15 and all kids are welcomed and encouraged to attend, from age zero to age 18, come on down," Ereaux said. "All kids are welcome."

Things get underway at the Westside Block Party on Saturday, September 28 with a free admission "Kidz Dance" at 6 p.m. complete with live music and children's friendly songs, free pizza for the youths, drawings, and the aforementioned kid's games and prizes.

Music for the night will be provided by Havre, Montana's Plowed Under, a band Ereaux has become familiar with over the last few years. She first heard Plowed Under at a party her cousin, Vicki Hofeldt, held at her Cleveland, Mont., ranch. (Hofeldt will make her way to Malta for the Plowed Under performance and sleep in a camper while in town.)

"We saw them last year and the year before," Ereaux said of the band. "They are just so good. They play a little bit of everything."

Food for adults will be sold by Side Hustle Café at the event and their menu will include brisket nachos, the pulled pork Hustler Cone, and the Buffalo Chicken Cone.

At 9 p.m., the adult's only party gets underway with more music by Plowed Under and in the event of inclement weather, the block party will be moved to the Pole Barn behind Westside Self-Service.

"We had a customer appreciation party a few summers ago and we had so much fun we decided we wanted to host another party this year to end the summer," Ereaux said. "I hope all of Phillips County comes out to celebrate with us."
