Boys and Girls Club host BBQ

The Malta Boys & Girls Club hosted a Back 2 School Barbeque on Thursday, August 15.

The event hosted close to fifty people and was full of games, fun, conversation and food.

“At the Boys & Girls Club we feel it’s important to include our families in activities with the kids,” Sonia Young said. “This has become one of our annual events where the Kawanis help us serve and fry hamburgers and serve hot dogs and everyone brings a dish to pass for the potluck.”

This year’s event also featured a bounce house, ultimate frisbee, tic-tac-toe, frisbee golf, checkers, and ladder ball.

“It’s also a night for parents to get to know some of the staff that we have here and also fill out membership forms for the new year,” Young said. “We will be starting our first day on Wednesday, August 21.”

Though the club started today, the club is always welcoming new members throughout the school year.

“Kids are welcome to come in with their parents to check out the club, sign the membership forms and have good times after school,” Young said. “After school kids can get help with their home work.”

The club also offers free snacks, outdoor activities, game rooms, a teen room for teenagers, and activitity rooms for S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

“In the game rooms they also learn S.T.E.M. activities even though they don’t always realize that they are doing that,” Young said. “We have Lego Quest where they build different themed creations, like bridges.”

Their interactions at the Malta Boys and Girls Club can be more fruitful and mature than interactions on social media.

“They learn to get along with one another and take turns,” Young said.

The exterior of the building has been given a face lift over the summer.

“Our newly roofed building that was completed this month looks awesome,” Young said. “We have had them painting our windows and it almost looks like a new building. The doors have been painted. We have also had some floors fixed that were damaged from the water getting in.”

Young went on to say how much the club appreciated the community’s support. For more info on the club call Young at 654-2378.
