One Nation, Under God
As a way of recognizing the American Legion’s 100th Anniversary, the Saco Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will proudly host the Stars & Stripes Talent Show featuring patriotic-themed acts on Saturday, August 31 during Saco Fun Days.
“Every year we try to pick a theme around someone or something in our community,” said Lacey Beil, Saco Chamber President. “So that is what we have picked this year.”
The Stars & Stripes Talent show will feature only patriotic acts and as of last week, the show has four people entered to perform, and there will be only 20 acts accepted into the program (if you would like to enter the talent show, you are encouraged to call Beil at 301-2034 or via email at [email protected].) There will be cash prizes for the top three acts on the night as picked by a panel of judges ($150 for first, $100 for second, and $50 for third provided by the Saco Chamber and Joe Palm, owner of the Old Brand Saloon, will also be sponsoring part of the show also) and there is no entry fee for contestants. The deadline for entries is August 21 and Dave Pippin will be handling the sound and public address system on the night.
The Stars & Stripes Talent Show will get underway on Saturday, August 31 at 3 p.m. at Miller Park and tickets are $5 for adults, 5-and-under are free and all Military Veterans, active duty and retired will also receive free admission to the show, as will members of the American Legion and Sons of the American Legion. There will also be EMS Concessions available for purchase and special guests’ entertainers throughout the show.
“There will also be a People’s Choice Award,” Beil said. “People will put money in the jars of the contestants they chose and the person with the most money wins the money in their jar. The rest of the money will be donated to the American Legion.”
Nick Kuehl has also built some custom cornhole boards and the money raised from the sale of those auctions will also be donated to the American Legion.
Beil said that this year’s talent show will replace last year’s demolition derby at Saco Fun Days. She said that she was unable to secure the derby contestants but the response to the talent show has been positive and she thinks it will be a great time.
