Second annual Summer Olympic games punctuate Summer Festival

The second annual Malta Chamber of Commerce Summer Olympic games will get underway this Saturday night and caps what should prove to be an active weekend in Malta.

The Summer Olympics will get underway at the Great Northern on Saturday night with the event’s registration running from 5:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Teams of four will compete throughout the night at local bars and taverns in teams of four and registration is $60 per squad. From the GN, teams will travel to the Tin Cup, Stockman Bar, Lucky Bullet Bar, Mint Bar, VFW Club, Westside Casino, and Blue Ridge Brewing (in any order of the teams choosing) before ending at Kid Curry with the award celebration at which the highest scoring team will be recognized, as will the bar or tavern deemed to have had the best Olympic game in their establishment.

“This is and the Putt Crawl are our two fundraisers each year,” Jessica Cebulski, Malta Chamber President, said. “It will give people something to do once the Summer Festival concludes on Saturday and is a great way to showcase our local bars and restaurants.”

The Malta Chamber has rented the services of Phillips Transit Authority and will be bussing people about town, from one event to the other. The games at the bars will include Yard Jenga, Ring Toss, Volley Pong and Cornhole and the team scores will be tabulated at the end of the night at Kid Curry. Last year the team of Jett Anderson, Brianna Anderson, Jace Anderson, and Shae Anderson took home the gold medal and will likely be looking to repeat this weekend.

At the conclusion of the Olympic Games, Band Flansburg will be playing live music at Kid Curry starting at 9 p.m. and going until 1 p.m. and A. E. Catering will be selling food.
