One Nation, Under God
With the help of various people and groups, the Trafton Park Baseball and Softball fields have seen plenty of upgrades, but this weekend a fundraiser is geared to help the field to remain playable at night time.
The Malta Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a Co-Ed Softball Tournament which will serve as a fundraiser to purchase lights for the east field.
The Parks and Rec Department hope that the third time is a charm for the event slated for Saturday, July 13, starting at 10 a.m.
“We wanted to do this last year but we had to cancel it due to weather,” Malta Parks and Recreation Director Julia Tatafu said. “The weather did not cooperate and we tried to postpone it to October and again the weather was terrible.”
Last year the event had several teams ready to play, which included two out of town teams.
The condition of the Trafton Fields have drastically improved with many if not all gopher holes filled, a leveled and plowed infield. As well as well maintained dugouts.
“We have improved our fields a lot,” Tatafu said. “So when it rains a lot now, we don’t have so many puddles sitting in the middle of our infield; they take so long to dry.”
The field also has a scoreboard put up by the Shey Williamson family.
