One Nation, Under God
I was going to write about how I purchased my first pair of Jordan brand shoes at age 31, but I have a more important story.
PJ started tee-ball! It is his first time playing in a real baseball game. I also have to shout out Malta Parks and Recreation for their kickball league (PJ’s first team experience.)
I know we may technically have one foot out of the door (nothing is guaranteed), but one of the things that Susan and I appreciate about Malta is that in the last few years extracurricular sports and events have really expanded.
On PJ’s first day of tee-ball, I had my camera out to take photos. The next day PJ’s team had a double-header, and I just wanted to spectate. In those two hours I didn’t want to be Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor for the “Phillips County News.” I wanted to be PJ’s dad.
Before his first game of kickball a month ago, I promised I would not be one of those over-bearing, sideline coach dads. But when he had shown that he had no idea what to do, all I could do was yell…. RUN SON!!!
PJ’s first attempts at base-running were gentle. I still to this day don’t know if he knows that there are three outs in kickball and tee-ball. He is starting to get more aggressive in running bases.
I do know that with every organized game he is playing, he is getting better. The first day he used a tee and the second day he refused to use one, opting for a pitch from his coach instead.
PJ does well for being only four-years-old. His love for baseball started at a younger age upon seeing me play “MLB: The Show” on my PlayStation and playing indoor baseball at his Grandpa and Nana’s house.
