One Nation, Under God
I see it coming.
This week I had the chance to cover the 2019 State Class A-C Track and Field Meet in Laurel, MT. At this event were the three Class C teams that are covered in the PCN.
I know it’s coming. Why didn’t you go to the 2019 State AA-B meet in Kalispell to cover Malta’s track teams?
Over the years I have gotten flak for covering the smaller schools, but I have always responded the same. All of our local kids work hard and we are the Phillips County News, meaning we cover every sports team in the county.
If you want a better excuse, here it goes. I was invited to Billings for a graduation on Sunday morning. This had been in the plans for a month or so.
It wasn’t until a week ago that I realized that we would be close to the A-C meet, so I ended up covering our Class C schools this past weekend.
Of course, I wish I was able to see the great performances at state put on by all of our kids from Class B and Class C, but that’s just how the dice landed this year.
I am proud of each of our Phillips County athletes and I thought that this year of high school sports has been a success. It definitely wasn’t as flashy as other seasons I have covered but I am proud of how our local teams have grown and competed.
I will miss covering high school sports this summer. But in the meantime, I will cover as many local events as I can.
As for the boys, I can’t wait to see them experience another summer in Phillips County. Until the mosquitoes come. Don’t fool yourselves, they are coming.
