One Nation, Under God
On April 12, the Coalition/Boys and Girls Club held a dinner/auction at their building for the “Raise the Roof” project. The Coalition has been doing many projects over several months to secure funding for the much needed repair projects on the old St. Mary’s school building they have occupied for almost 14 years.
The Coalition received a generous $10,000.00 donation from the Gianforte foundation over a year ago and received over $9,500.00 with the annual “One Campaign” with the help of KMMR and a time of receiving pledges and making the need known to the community.
A total of 117 individuals and businesses donated money and items for the dinner/auction. The total amount of auction sales was just short of $10,000.00 for which we are very grateful. Thank you to Alison’s Pantry/Avon, Joe’s In and Out, John Roberts, John and Sherry Demarais, Karen Ellsworth, Karl and Jackie Harms, Katie Brown, Katrina and Jerry Rich, Kevin and Brenda Koss, KMMR, Kristi Harms, Lamb Family, Leila Blatter Adolphson, Lettuce Eat, Liquor Haven, Little Mutt Groomin’ Hut, Lloyd’s Auto Supply, Lucky Bullet, Lynne’s Line Photography, Malta Kiwanis, Malta Tire, Melvin Wiese, Mindy Shores, NAPA, Paula Ost, Patience Wiltse, Patty’s Greenhouse, PC Cattlewomen, PC Insurance PC Motorsports, PC Museum, PCMS, Phillips County News, Polish to Perfection, Prairie Design, R& G Quality Feeds, Rachel Mortensen, Randy and Mary Shores, Salsbery Brothers, Sandy Lett, Sharon Young, Sheer Essence, Spare Change, Spencer Electric, Squirrel’s, Stretch’s, Sue Olsen, 406 Spray Tan, AandJ Mobile, A Fine Line Autobody, Active Solutions Physical Therapy, Albertson’s, Alex Wiederrick, Angel DeVries, two anonymous, Art’s Furniture, Ashley Pankratz, Bill and Carol Smith, Bishop Building, Bishop Inc., Blue Ridge Brewery, Brenda Clark, Brent Waters, Inky’s Tattoos, Super Shopper, Sweet Briar Creations, Taylor Eggebrecht, The Mint Bar, Tin Cup/Marian Hills Golf Course, Todd Young Family, Todd’s Technology, Tulips and Treasures, Valley Drug, Vivian Bruckner, Villa Theater, Western Styles, Westside C-Store, Westside Food Court.
In addition to the needed roof replacement, the building needs a new back door which is estimated to cost about $5,000 and a new cement slab at the back entrance. This project is estimated to cost about $9,000. The old cellar which held the old boiler was flooded two years ago when the new water system was installed and much damage was done to the contents of that area. The project consists of removing all that can be taken out and filling the hole with a dirt/gravel mixture and pouring new cement over the ground area. The floor in two basement rooms has sunk on the outside wall, so there will have to be some repair work done in each of these rooms.
So the cost of the projects is approximately $60,000.00. The current amount raised is $48,166.68.
Thank you Phillips County residents for all the support you have given the Phillips County Coalition for Healthy Choices and the Malta Boys and Girls Club. We are a grant funded 501C3 organization, but we depend on donations to continue our activities. The building location is great being half way between the Grade School and the High School. We have bus service from the Malta Grade School so the young children do not have to cross Central Avenue alone.
Work has started on the back of the Club and with weather getting warmer; the roof project will soon start. Please feel like driving by 101 S 7th Street West and taking a look. We invite the public to visit us and see what is happening and what our plans for the future entail. We suggest you call us at 654-2378 to make sure it is a convenient time for us to visit with you and show you around.
