One Nation, Under God
The granddaddy of them all as far as Phillips County shindigs, the Malta walleye’s Unlimited Banquet, will celebrate its 30th incarnation this Saturday at Malta City Hall and everyone is invited.
Malta Walleye's President Jim Mayer told the PCN that the Malta Banquet has continued to grow over the past 29 years and has become one of the bigger banquets in the state, rivaling those events in such large cities as Great Falls and Billings. He thanked all the supporters of the annual event and included all the businesses and organizations, both local and from neighboring counties, for all the support over the years.
Each year, money raised at the Malta Walleye Banquet helps pay for various Walleye activities in the County — including Take a Kid Fishing Day in the winter and Camp Walleye in the summer — and paid for the new Public Address System in the gym in Malta City Hall and will provide a new dock at Nelson Reservoir this year.
The menu for this year's event will be the same as every year -- including Cora's World Famous Potatoes — and the start time and other pertinent information can be found on the Walleye advertisement on page 5A of this weeks PCN.
Things that have changed this year include Larry Simpson as both MC and auctioneer (so Greg Kielb and Cliff Rustad can cool their heels and actually enjoy the event without working) and the change of the fish race auction which will make that fund-raiser (always the biggest money earner of the evening) that much more enjoyable. The event gets underway this Saturday, March 30, at Malta City Hall. Be there or be square (and go look at their ad on 5A.)
