Coyotes defeat Bearcubs, fall to Lions

The Dodson Coyotes split last weekend’s games, blowing out the Frazer Bearcubs on Friday, January 11, but then falling to the Lustre Christian Lions on Saturday, January 12.

The Coyotes are scheduled to face the Scobey Spartans in Scobey on Saturday, January 19, at 5 p.m. The Coyotes JV team is scheduled to face the Opheim JV team on Friday, January 18.

In the Coyotes’ 73-33 win over Frazer, Dodson was led by Corbin LoneBear who scored 23 points, 10 of which came in the second quarter. Sam Main scored 14 points. Shaun Ball had 11 points. Michael Jaynes score eight points. Tyrese Messerly scored five points. Caleb Ditmar and Kadin Racine both scored three points. Jeramiah Benson scored one point.

“We played good team basketball,” Dodson Head Coach Frank Benson told the PCN. “Everybody played equal time.”

To double-down on his claim that the team intentionally played all members of the team, Coach Benson noted that he kept track on his sub chart.

“I had a sub chart like I did during the elementary basketball season,” Coach Benson said.

Regardless of who was on the floor, Dodson played a dominant defense which led to a high-scoring offense in their win over the Bearcubs. Dodson outscored Frazer 21-4 in the opening period. The team would hold Frazer to nine points in the second while putting up 19. The Coyotes had a 40-13 lead at halftime. Dodson would score 20 in the third and 13 in the fourth while holding Frazer to nine points and 13 points respectively.

In Dodson’s 67-59 loss to Lustre Christian, Dodson was led by Ball who scored 26 points. Main and LoneBear both scored 10 points. Ditmar added five points to the total. Messerly and Jaynes both had three points and Landis Walker scored two points.

Scobey’s Zach Brown led all scorers with 32 points and Terry Allmer listed at 6’7” scored 22.
