One Nation, Under God
The Monday before last Monday was pretty intense. What I have feared would happen did. I got sick on a Monday.
At the PCN, Monday is an essential day for writing news and general wrap up. My Monday morning involves talking to several coaches to recap sporting events that have happened over the weekend and then writing stories about our local teams or various other features.
Because Mondays are so busy, if I haven’t written everything during the weekend, I absolutely need to be in office to take care of business. Monday is the worst possible day to need a sick day.
Welp. A couple of weeks ago I was sick and it was bad, really bad.
One night prior I did everything to make sure I would be ready to go. I drank plenty of fluids. I rested. I even stayed away from my espresso machine, which I love very much. Still, I woke up not feeling 100 percent.
It wasn’t until I was halfway done with my first interview that I noticed a pounding headache. Every time I would cough, that headache would get worse. It felt like a punch to the head.
The next thing that happened was one of the weirdest sensations I had ever felt. I was shivering uncontrollably at my desk. I was unable to talk, so I literally shuddered at the idea of doing an interview. I couldn’t think straight and I couldn’t get warm.
After an hour of the shakes, I recovered, and at that point, I knew I needed to go into the doctor. The whole process took about an hour but thanks to a couple of local heroes at the Phillips County Health Clinic, I was able to make it through a long work day. I must say that was the best doctor visit I have had in a long time.
It wasn’t a fun ride, but I am happy to say that I survived a sick Monday.
So. Yes. The entire Bibbs house was hit with a cold, but things are starting to get better because we have been taking all kinds of medicine and have been getting more rest.
Other than being sick, PJ and Lincoln are doing great. PJ is still a really great big brother, who is learning so much at his preschool. He is starting to get really good with his numbers. Lincoln has two teeth, which he has been using to chomp on baby cereal snacks.
