One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News and Opinion for November 14, 2018

The election is finally over!

Our Whitewater town has been booming! We had cowboys, hunters, and a basketball tournament with several teams.

First, local ranchers are shipping cattle. Recently, I heard bawling from Stockyards. Maybe these are Howard Bergs’.

Huge trucks ship the cattle now. When I grew, most shipping was done on The Little Train which we called the “Galloping Goose.” The train ran from Glasgow to Saco, Whitewater, Turner and Hogeland, Mont. I wish we still had a train here.

As I said there are many hunters in the area. Dale Green of Minnesota, formerly a Whitewater High School student and a friend are here in town to hunt. My personal preference is to see the deer and antelope alive and jumping but to each his own.

Last weekend, there was a basketball tourney at WHS. The junior high team had our Sommer Green and others here to play. Lunch was served by the local 4-H.

Whitewater Penguins are not the “Mavericks” as they are combined with Saco and Hinsdale. Some teams are made up from just one school which makes some of the scores really lopsided. It really is not fair as the players try hard.

There was a baby shower for the baby of parents who are working for Jesse and Carrie Simonson. The shower was Sunday at North 40. Congrats to them.

Sympathy to Eunice and Lyn Simonson as their winter home in Arizona was damaged by a recent tornado and flood. Thank goodness we don’t have tornadoes in Whitewater.

We had light snow and rain The snow has already melted but the wind made it very cold. I hate to think of winter.

Anyway, happy birthday and happy anniversary to all November people celebrating.

Have a good week,

Helen A.
