The Malta Speech and Drama team participated in the Conrad Invitational on Saturday, November 10. The team took first place in the Speech competition and second in Drama.
Malta Speech and Drama Head Coach Anna LaBrie expressed pride in her team.
"I am very proud of this meet," Coach LaBrie said. It was a big meet with 18 class B/C schools participating. We had a couple of students who had never competed before and placed in the top five."
Malta placed several in both Speech and Drama, led by Bonnie Jones, who took home first place in Speech with her performance of the Lincoln Douglas debate.
"Bonnie Jones and Tamela Abrahamson had full sweeps in Debate with three wins each in the preliminary rounds," Coach LaBrie said. "Tamela's only loss was against teammate Bonnie in the final round."
Abrahamson took second in Speech with her Lincoln Douglas debate. Izzy Markuson took second in Speech in the Informative Speech category. Markus Woods was third in SPOI. Ben Costin took fifth in the Impromptu category. Caty Moore took seventh in the Humorous Oral Interpretation category.
Malta's Drama group was led by Erika Nagy and Keith Epperson who took second place in their respective topics. Nagy was in Serious Solo and Epperson was in Humorous Solo. Turk Salsbery took fourth in Mime and Ashlynn Morser took sixth in Humorous Solo.
The Malta Speech And Drama team's next meet will be in Glasgow on Saturday, November 17.
