One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News and Opinion for September 26, 2018

9-19. Get well to Dallas Green.

Teresa Cole (Dodson) took Linda Berg to Billings. Linda really appreciated that!

Many from Whitewater (including myself) attended the “Historic Walk” at the Phillips County Museum’s Robinson House on Sunday, September 9. Pioneering persons were acted out by local people (actors). My father, Harry Austin, Sr., was impersonated by Orvin Solberg, who did a great job.

Much of the history and stories were from Dad’s book titled “Pioneers of the Great Northwest” (which I wrote.) Many relatives and family attended the program including Janet (Austin) Brown (sis), and cousin Laurie (Kopelman) Cheff of Ronan (she was the daughter of Ira and Emma Kopelman who lived here in the 1940’s and 1950s.) Laurie’s son, Jim Cheff, and Betty Lou Rudisill of Conrad accompanied Laurie. We had a little reunion and it was great to visit them and renew our memories.

Note: Laurie’s husband (Bud Cheff, Jr.) wrote a book titled “Legend Keeper; More Trails, More Tears” about Montana. Laurie gave me a copy and it is very good.

On the subject of books: Pastor Bob Nagy has a “Book Club” and discussions on the book he has selected (I haven't read it yet.) They will meet every Sunday after church (around 12:15 p.m.) All are welcome to participate.

Welcome to Tyler Anthony and family, who works for Adam Hellie. Welcome to all the new people here.

It is a beautiful day in Whitewater. We should all go for a walk.

9.26. I recently attended the local movie. I was disgusted by the filthy, dirty language in all of the movie. Also, it was so violent. No wonder the kids act up; they do not have role models. Whatever happened to Disney movies, or romances, or old-fashioned westerns. Sometimes, TV movies are also terrible. It is sad.

The North 40 Café has a new roof! Looking good! The Ryan Olson Memorial Dart Tournament, Auction and Supper was Saturday, September 15. People from other towns participated.

Salute to Whitewater’s own Bonnie McMullen for her work on Sleeping Disorders at the Phillips County Hospital.

Ashly and Dallas Green have been to Billings for medical appointments.

There was a volleyball tournament at Whitewater High School last weekend. Many teams from different schools participated with some local students (also, there were football games.) I’ll let sports writers handle the scores and logistics of sports.

Our local gardener Lu Besel gave me green beans and squash. I really appreciate it.

On Sunday, Andrew and Julie Nagy attended church at Whitewater Lutheran Church along with Pastor Bob Nagy and Annie Jefferson. They helped Pastor Nagy put on a puppet show. All were welcome.

Whitewater had a real nice rain and water was in the streets. It made the grass green again; especially weeds, which are all over my yard.

Have a nice week.
