$6,000 raised at 'Fight for Our Future" events nets thank you letter

In June, Dodson’s Wesley KillEagle, Jr., hosted the “Fight for Our Future” MMA fights as a way to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and was able to send the non-profit a check for $6,000.

The morning of the fights, in Dodson, KillEagle Jr. —with the assistance of family and friends who’d support the efforts throughout the entire day — hosted the “Our Women, Our Fight” seminar to help train women to be vigilant when it comes to sexual predators and sex trafficking.

Both events and the monies they raised followed the KillEagle family’s stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Washington state where he, his son Lance and daughters Ivis and Payton stayed while Payton received care for a cancerous tumor on her liver in 2017. Payton continues to get better with successful check-ups and KillEagle Jr. felt the time was right to give back to the Ronald McDonald House.

"These kids are fighting for their lives over there," he told the PCN. "I figure that the best way to honor them is to have some people fight to help them fight."

KillEagle Jr. recently received word that the $6,000 raised had been received by the RMHC and thanked him and the community for their efforts.

“Thank you for hosting the MMA fundraiser and for your donation of $6,000 in support of the children and families served by the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Western Washington and Alaska,” Co-Director Vanessa Kirk Briley wrote. “Your gift will provide families with approximately 200 nights of much-needed shelter along with the sense of community and belonging in a time of crisis.”

In 2017, the Seattle Ronald McDonald House provided 27,976 nights of housing and services to 429 families and the Anchorage House provided housing and services to an average of 170 families a month, the letter states.

KillEagle Jr. told the PCN that though the $6,000 was great and thanked everyone who helped the day to be a success and all the people who attended the day’s events, but he told the PCN that his fundraising efforts are far from over.

“I am so happy that we could help, and I am hoping to do it again soon,” he said. “We’ve got some ideas that we are working on so stay tuned. And, again, thank you to everyone that has helped us along the way. We will see you all very soon.”
